We know that independent school tuition is a significant financial commitment to a child’s education, and we strive to keep JCS as accessible to all families as possible. However, independent school families must make every effort to secure assistance from family members or other sources as needed to help pay tuition. Independent schools are supported mostly by tuition income, and JCS is no different. Our tuition is roughly half the Washington State average for independent schools and our financial aid budget is limited.
Because of our fiscal year, the payment process begins June, 2014 and goes through May, 2015. Families should expect small tuition increases each year.
Families who feel they do not have the financial resources to pay full tuition may apply for financial aid. The amount of financial aid available will be distributed among the families who apply and qualify, based on each family’s extent of need. Financial aid is based solely on need, not on merit; however, we will give priority to students whose school history indicates they are highly mission-appropriate. Financial aid is not available for expeditions; however, student fund raising efforts will be organized to make it possible for all students to participate.
Jefferson Community School uses the School and Student Services (SSS) for Financial Aid, a service of the National Association of Independent Schools, to help assess a family’s ability to pay independent school tuition. Through this secure online service you will receive confidential and objective consideration of your financial eligibility for reduced tuition. Please go to http://sssbynais.org/parents to read about the application process, find out what information you will need to assemble to make your application, and complete the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) on-line. To fill out your PFS, you will need to use Jefferson Community School’s code number: 4207.
All families who wish to be considered for financial aid must apply though SSS and must also submit a copy of their IRS Tax Return as part of their Financial Aid application. This full process is required even if you qualified for and received financial aid in the current school year.
Applications for financial aid must be submitted to SSS by March 16th. We will notify families of their financial aid award by April 15th.
(*Students seeking admission after April 15th may still be eligible for financial aid as available, but highest consideration is assured if your application is complete by March 16th. Please contact the office to determine availability of funds.)
